Sometimes you luck out and you get some genes that are really good, and sometimes you get ones that you have to overcome.

“I think we all certainly have our family's legacies that we carry on. Sometimes you luck out and you get some genes that are really good, and sometimes you get ones that you have to overcome. I know that there are some that I have to keep focus on. Heart disease is a major one for me.

Especially men in general, we tend to worry about our hearts a lot. “What's that little, weird sensation? Is it a heart attack? Oh my God, I'm worried…” And then that worry just grows, and grows. But, that anxiety drops the more you focus on your health. I used to look at exercise as, “I have to do it because you're supposed to do it.” Now, I'm doing it because I know that my family has certain genetic dispositions to certain diseases or issues.

You're not going to overcome those issues unless you can consistently dedicate yourself to exercising. My family is not unique, having to deal with what we deal with. I have some good genes, and I can overcome the issues that we have because my grandfather is 103.”
