“During a period of five years, it was really bad. It would affect me at work because I would be in the middle of my day and all of a sudden, I would have an (anxiety) attack.“
“Growing up I was a very quiet, shy child. I really kept to myself. I didn't have a tremendous amount of friends and had a little bit of anxiety, over the normal stuff. You know, like taking a test or going for your driver’s license. But, after I had my kids, when I got into my late 30s, out of the blue I started having anxiety attacks. And to be honest with you, the first time I had it, I thought I was having a heart attack.
Even though the doctor ended up telling me I was fine, I went to the cardiologist and got the full scale of testing done. They told me that there was nothing wrong, but I thought, then what happened to me?
I started looking everything up on the internet. How do I handle anxiety? What do I do to help myself?
I started breathing and trying to do meditation to help when I was having an attack. I would have them for 20 minutes to a half hour. As I was having them, I would be sitting there trying to breathe through it and calm down. Eventually, it would pass.
However, during a period of five years, it was really bad. It would affect me at work because I would be in the middle of my day and all of a sudden, I would have an attack.
As I got older, I understood what was happening to me, but I started putting on more weight. I wasn't really helping myself, and that added to the anxiety. That was one of the reasons why I was looking for something as an alternative to medication to help me. I think that exercising and working out, in general, has helped me control it.
Through breathing, trying to be healthy and exercising more, when I do feel anxious, going out and doing some form of exercise helps me release all the tension that I have. I think I've been doing pretty well at that, especially over the last two to three years."
