Movement Monday: Training With Pain
We've all heard the old adage, "Pain is weakness leaving the body."
This is a public service announcement, in a perfect world, training should not cause pain!
Check out what Coach Ed and Coach Mike have to say on the, "no pain, no gain" mentality, and how we train around pain here at Results Driven.
Training with pain happens, ant it's a situation that a lot of people find themselves in. The good thing is, at Results Driven, members are always working with a coach. We've had clients with broken wrists, broken feet or your run of the mill back pain, who were able to find success.
We attribute our ability to work with any individual to the Functional Movement Screen. With this seven movement assessment, we get an understanding of how members move. Just because someone has a broken foot doesn't mean they can't exercise (assuming they've been cleared by a medical professional). It means we have to take advantage of every position that doesn't use that foot, and trust us when we say, there are plenty of training options no matter someone's limitations.
Exercise is rarely comfortable, at least the type of exercise that helps people reach their goals. At the same time, discomfort should cause pain. Acute joint or muscle pain is a no no! Stick with exercises that don't aggravate the funky joint or muscle, train everything else, and you should be good to go!
