Know Pain

Progress is not linear. Whether you’re training for a Spartan Race, fat loss or rehabbing from an injury, expect bumps in the road. That’s what’s happened with Heather. For a year and a half, she’s dealt with lingering shoulder pain. It radiated from her neck, down through her shoulder. Appropriate training and massage therapy wasn’t working.

“I feel stronger. I’m getting back to being motivated and doing more in the gym.”
— Heather J.

Understandably, Heather got discouraged. She couldn’t pinpoint the problem because the pain would come and go. Eventually, she traveled to the New York City to see Charlie Weingroff, a renowned physical therapist that’s had a great impact on the RD system. After his evaluation, RD and Heather’s massage therapist were given a road map to help her eliminate her pain.

Now Heather has a new outlook on training. Coming from a dance background, she’s never done serious weight training. “I just started deadlifting again and goblet squatting, which I haven’t done in a long time. I’ve never done kettlebell swings but maybe I could get to that point some day.”

Results Driven doesn’t promote the “no pain, no gain” mentality. There’s going to be discomfort while challenging yourself, but pain while training is unacceptable. Having the right team behind you is important. Physical Therapists, Chiropractors and healthcare professionals all play a role in helping our members achieve their goals. Knowing your pain will help you know your gains.
